OUR VISION

Our vision is to cultivate a community of positive, optimistic citizens equipped to play

transformative roles in their own lives, the lives of others, and society as a whole.

We believe in nurturing children with love, and providing them with the awareness and

understanding of the societal conditions in which they live, work and play.

Our goal is to foster responsible global citizens who make a difference in the world.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to teach children how to learn, to think for themselves, and to work

collaboratively.

We are committed to empowering children to recognize and embrace their talents

and capabilities, preparing children well for high school, college and university.

We nurture children who are resilient, resourceful, compassionate, and experience

happiness, satisfaction and inner peace.

We foster core competencies, the character and comprehensive development, and

full potential of each child.

We encourage the agency of children, with a focus on awareness and peace-building.

empowerment and enrichment, change-making and leadership.

OUR CULTURE OF PEACE

The world needs more peace. We believe that a more peaceful world begins with our

children. We endorse international conventions and agreements that embrace the

creation of a peaceful and harmonious world.

We encourage cooperation, collaboration and collective effort to build shared community,

and to find the best solutions to challenges and conflicts, creating new possibilities.

Our culture of peace facilitates meaningful, synergistic relationships and experiences,

and contributes to creating a world in which the inherent worth of all is valued.

OUR VALUES AND PRINCIPLES

Our culture of peace is informed by the values and principles of humanistic education.

Our principles are child-centered education, the growth and comprehensive

development of the whole child, accessibility, and a safe, engaging, and encouraging

learning environment.

The values we practice at The Peace School are:

  • child-centered, family-focused and community-based
  • respectful of individuals, communities of interest and communities of place
  • flexible and responsive
  • sensitivity to culture and gender
  • understanding the whole child, in a broad context
  • ensuring equality of opportunity for every child
  • encouraging the acceptance of differences
  • fostering the talents and interests of each child
  • enhancing teacher capacity, morale, commitment, and status
  • providing an education that is affordable and accessible

Our values and principles are displayed on a poster at the entrance to The Peace

School. We use colour intentionally to symbolize the mosaic of people, culture and

community that we are, here in Canada and around the world.
