Yuko Uesugi is a Professor in the Department of Social System Design at Eikei University of Hiroshima, holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from Hiroshima University, and brings over 20 years of expertise in international and bilingual education. Her distinguished career includes serving as Director of the university’s International Affairs Center, and she currently leads two prominent regional academic organizations: the Chugoku branch of J-CLIL (since 2021) and the Chugoku-Shikoku branch of JACET (Japan Association for Global Competency Education, since 2024). Her leadership in these roles underscores a deep and sustained commitment to advancing global education across Japan.
An expert in American literature, English pedagogy, and global education, she has an extensive publication record, including two university-level CLIL textbooks and more than ten peer-reviewed articles focused on global education through virtual exchange. Her pioneering research on online intercultural communication with overseas partner institutions has established her as a thought leader in the field.
In 2017, she was selected to join the German-Japanese Study Program for Youth Welfare Specialists in Germany, where she focused on inclusive education—further reflecting her dedication to fostering equity and cross-cultural understanding in academic contexts.
In 2024, she was one of only two participants selected from Japan to join the international program “All Means All,” supported by the Erasmus+ scholarship. Collaborating with a global team, she contributed to the development of an open-access textbook designed for educators and learners, successfully completing the project with a focus on inclusive and equitable education.
